Another sewing marathon completed from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Phew! I did the impossible. I am READY (well, almost) ready for the classes today. I had one last night, and everything was prepped for that. There are three today, and while I didn't quite get all the sewing done, I got enough to show what we're doing. There are a few more pictures to take this morning and add to one of the presentations.

I decided NOT to do the demo live. Nope - I took a bunch of pictures and videos yesterday. And I was on a work call for nearly three hours - that consumed a lot ...

Quilt backings from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You know how you have a project that just seems to go on forever? This current magazine quilt appears to be that quilt. I'm happy to say that the top is completely together and is waiting on the long arm to be loaded later this morning.

There are many colored little squares in it, and I swear, the more I tried to keep the colors separate, the more they gathered together. I didn't change any of the squares around, and actually, something interesting appeared because of this. Sorry - I can't share it with you. I should take ...

Molas from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I get so much good advice from you!!!  Order ONE pair of shoes and if they fit, buy two more instead of buying three at once. OK -- I NEED to order that first pair today. My current shoes are way past the expiry date. I won't lose the extra pairs - they go in the hall closet. Ordering those shoes HAS to be on the list of things to do today. I see my Windows Explorer windows all shut down last night, so I need to find the shoes again.

I am terrible about closing the windows at the end ...

The Personality of Color from Where Art & Life Meet

I think of color as having personality. I get a sense of colors much the way I get a sense of people at a dinner party. There are those who dominate the conversation, others who are quiet, yet have really interesting things to say once encouraged. Some people light up when seated next to someone… Continue reading The Personality of Color

I Become A Color Whisperer from The Snarky Quilter

After years of avoiding color theory practice (the practice means you have to make a color wheel) I finally broke down and signed up for Jane Davies’ downloadable class, “Unlocking The Secrets of Color.” I have to say that color … Continue reading

Matching Fabrics Part 3: Using Elements (blenders) from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hi, fabric lovers!

Elements-2020 BLOG

Welcome back to my “Matching Fabrics” series! This has been quite a ride, with such an overwhelming response since the start, I am very excited to be continuing and sharing my knowledge. In my last blog post, we spoke about how important scale was and how to use it. In the last part of that blog, we spoke about the small-scale fabric prints and in this section, I wanted to dive deeper into what that is and how they are also considered a blender fabric.

First, let's talk about the definition of a blender fabric. These ...

Color and Design from Where Art & Life Meet

When I was working as a contributing editor at Elle Magazine, the Fashion Director called me out loudly in front of the entire staff. She asked me if I was color blind, not in a concerned way, but as an accusation meant to humiliate, and demonstrate just how awful she thought my sense of color… Continue reading Color and Design

Matching Fabrics Part 2: Scale from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Welcome back, fabric friends!

I just want to quickly say thank you for everyone’s kind comments and feedback on my last blog post, Matching Fabrics Part 1: Color, it makes me so happy that you found it helpful. Which brings me to today, with PART 2, talking all about scale on fabric. Now you may ask yourself, why does the scale of each print matter? Well, you have to think about it like colors, the busier a print is, the more dominant color will be visible, which means you have to visually balance it with another fabric print that ...

“Discomfort” & Designing from Where Art & Life Meet

I’m working on something new, which is always exciting and uncomfortable at the same time. *Digression alert* That word -uncomfortable – is also used when you go into a doctor’s office to have a surgical procedure done and they say, “This might pinch a little” or when you go to the dentist to get your… Continue reading “Discomfort” & Designing

Matching Fabrics Part 1: Color from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Welcome back, fabric friends!

One of my favorite things about my job is being able to step into the warehouse and grab a variety of different prints to create a new group that excites me to sew something together. I'm lucky enough to step into a warehouse of fabrics, but I’m sure everyone here has their fabric warehouse of their own (haha) and you may be struggling on how to use it up together.

Being able to work here at AGF, I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with such talented people and watch a collection from start ...

Fat Quarter Quilts! Tips for Choosing Fabric … watch Stephanie do a fabric pull from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Scrappy and fat quarter quilts are so much fun to make, but choosing fabric that looks nice together can be one of the hardest parts of the process.

In today’s bonus video, Stephanie turned the camera on while she narrowed 42 fat quarters from Tula Pink’s True Colors collection down to 14 for a quilt she is working on for her next book.

The video is a little different format than we normally make because I literally only have an idea of what I want for color when we start, and you get a peak into my thought ...
